The performance training group is a sub-section of the RCBC. This group is open to all RCBC athletes regardless of whether you prefer kayak, canoe, marathon or sprint. - Athletes may elect to participate in both USCA (marathon paddling) and USACK (predominantly sprint) events.
- The group will meet on a regular basis throughout most of the year, with the exception of the XC ski/boy's swimming season.
- The goal of this group is to prepare athletes who would like to take paddling to "the next level", and qualify for national teams, high level competitions, and other elite events.
- Athletes must have their own PFDs, and should acquire their own canoe and kayak paddles by their second season.
- Athletes will be provided a training plan and schedule tailored to their interests. This training plan will include both paddling and dry-land/strength activities.
- Athletes will be expected to regularly submit their training logs, and will be responsible for keeping coaches informed regarding their progress and status.
- All performance group athletes are expected to take part in the weekly RCBC training paddles during the 'peak season', and other regularly scheduled events as designated by their coaches.
- Sprint athletes who desire to pursue national level competition should work toward acquiring their own sprint boats. The club may be able to assist in acquiring these boats, but the final responsibility of the athletes and their family.
Competition, resources, and expenses. Athletes who choose to participate in the peformance group will be expected to pay additional fees to cover the higher expenses of training and competing. Fees will be due quarterly, and payable to the RCBC. Fee schedule will be announced at end of February. At this time, there is no coaching fee above and beyond the year-around club fee.
